It Gets Better and Better: Your Television, now in 3-D

Facebook is mostly a way to pass the time between idyll moments of thought. It serves as a distraction, mostly, but on occasion, you come across some tiny morsel of information that really gets your gears moving.

Recently I was on vacation in El Salvador with my father, where I watched Avatar in 3-d (with subtitles, of course) with him and some of his friends. After the movie, my father and I lingered outside waiting for the group to rejoin and discussed the awesome that was that movie presented in 3-d.

Today, rummaging around facebook, I across this heading: "ESPN to launch 3D network in June"

Okay, welcome to the future. Starting in June ESPN is going to be bringing 3-d into your home. How? Well, simple. Remember those nifty 3d glasses that you wore to watch Chicken Little and Avatar? You're gonna need to bust those out. And you know that huge plasma tv you just bought yourself for Christmas? Well you re gonna need to toss that, and buy yourself a better one.

That's a fairly large investment for a recession ridden country, not including the cost of programming, additional hardware and replacement glasses over the months. The challenge to broadcasters will be cost effectiveness. Paul Liao, CEO of the CableLabs consortium of cable operators, says that while 3D movies are paramount to the success of 3D in the home, live sports "will engage the consumer to a degree that has been unprecedented." But the channel plans on being "off-air" when one of the 81 3-d events for 2010 aren't on the air, which doesn't exactly scream 'value-added'.

The rest of the above-mentioned facebook article goes on to say:

Broadcasting live events in 3D comes at an extra cost. Locations where cameras are placed to capture a regular high-definition sporting event don't necessarily translate to a 3D broadcast. If simultaneously broadcasting in regular HD, ESPN needs to employ a second production crew, and different announcers, for the 3D telecast.

ESPN, which is part of Disney, has been testing 3D for more than two years.

In September, it produced the University of Southern California vs. Ohio State football game in 3D, shown on the USC campus and in theaters in Ohio, Texas and Connecticut. In surveys afterward, most viewers said they were "wowed." But some said quick camera changes "were a little hard on the eyes." And the research suggested that willingness to pay for 3D was "extremely dependent on (the) matchup."

"We don't have all the answers," says Chuck Pagano, ESPN's executive vice president for technology. "We asked the same questions back in the HD days. Is this going to be better? Is this going to be worse?"

ESPN likely won't have the 3D stage to itself. The HD Guru3D website reports that DirecTV will launch a 3D channel at CES. Robert Mercer, a spokesman for the satellite provider, wouldn't confirm that. But he says "3D is something we are very interested in."

Going away for a while

In case you may have noticed, I have been somewhat absent lately. I work a full time job, freelance a couple more jobs and write for a few places. I have a house to keep and cats to feed. So here's the deal, where every so often i may still post the occasional shit on this here bloggy, you know, to let you know how much I miss you but the majority of my posts will now be split up on two, already existing (and totally awesome)sites.

God, I love me some Ninjas

First of all, welcome to my new look. It took a little bit of tweaking and adjusting to get everything done, but I was able to get this and the blog I run for work up and running with only a few minor issues, with getting the ShareThis button to work as my biggest headache (still not working on the other blog). The templates at Blog and Web were a great help and very easy to manipulate and I suggest it for anyone tired of the limitations of their current blogger made ones.

Anywho, before deciding to make my own custom graphic for the top, I spent a couple hours going through all 50 something web page results for ninja pictures.

Boy oh, Boy, did I ever find some interesting things. Take this amazing picture for instance. There are actually crazy people out there who make their pets look like ninja turtles. wow.

You Just Kissed My Mole

Lately I have been thinking that I want to change the name of this blog. There are a couple of ideas that I have been playing around with in my head, but I haven't committed to one yet. I want something more fun, something a little more me. We'll see what I come up with. We'll see what it is that i finally come up with, what i finally decide on, and how long it'll actually last. yay!

Moving on. Sept 25 till the 28th will be a Fun time for me. Kevin, Liza and I (and potentially Katie) will be hitting the blacktop for fun times. We'll be headed to the ATL, for the only Ratatat stop in the southeast. We're gonna hang out the rest of the weekend and see the Georgia aquarium, go somewhere around five points, maaaayyyybe see the Olympic stadium. Then we make our way to the Cut Copy and Presets show at the masquerade again. Should be fun. If you have any suggestion for things to do. Go ahead and let me know.

Never Tickle a Sleeping Dragon, Starry Wizards, And the Great Melodic Escape

I know I've been absent, and trying to pass the time and make things okay by posting stories I've been forced to write for school, by posting stupid youtube videos my boss sends my way. Playtime has been taken away from me and It is slightly aggravating. There no excuse for it, I'm sorry (although the Youtube video was incredibly hilarious).

So today, I give you a real post, and to get things off to a good start, an Actual update of things going on in the wide world of melanie. Bullet Style

• We ( a group of close, business minded friends and I) have started talks on getting something together so that a few of us don't have to dedicate our lives to making other peoples tons of money anymore.
  
• Written way too much in the two weeks I've been in school, slacked off on my reading, so far so good
• Had my interview with Dawn from Black Kids - look for that to be up on Don't Sleep Orlando soon. The feature will be published in the Orlando Weekly the week of September 14th (issue comes out wed, Sept 17) and should be available online (I think).
  
• I Made the absolute most delicious Pasta Carbonara from scratch for dinner last night. Yums.

The Return of Krames and The Do Nothing Day

With no work and nothing I can do without getting responses from people who refuse to respond to me, yesterday was an incredibly uneventful and boring day. I succeeded in not setting foot outside my apartment and instead sat with Katie and Kevin and accomplished the following:

• Watched 6 episodes of scrubs - reruns of course
• Watched The Birdcage
• Watched Mystery Men
• Ate Chicken Pot Pie, Omelet with bell peppers and turkey, tuna sandwich, blueberry and cream muffin
• drank coffee and beer (not at the same time tho)
• Updated my Website to include twitter feeds and Tumblr Feeds
• Wrote more of my Feature

It was so intense it made me tired. And i went to bed at midnight. Today I wake up crampy, bloated, menstrual and bitchy. I was tired before getting out of bed.
Nevertheless tonight i will be out on the town for the third appearance of NY based Krames at (rumors have it the last) Carnival.
His last two appearances at Orlando's Wednesday night weekly were arguably two of the best nights for the ongoing event, and this third appearance is most likely going to fall right in with the rest.

Shake off the dust and come out to party with those irreverent carnies. Its bound to be one hell of a party

Its surprising that in a town occupied primarily by transients and tourists, a party like crush would've managed to survive. Stormy Weather, Cherry Cokes

I am bored by certain people. I am not aggravated or angry, i am not remorseful or regretful. I'm not lurking or caring, I'm not prying or even asking. I just don't care, really.

Its actually quite funny, and I love the fact that people get such a rise out of being 'neglected, dejected and left behind'. Why am I so happy about this, lets see

• I have kept the friends that i have made through hard work and effort. And i have done it without forcing people to pick sides, causing people to respect me, instead of continuing to befriend me because of a sense of pity.
• I have moved forward professionally, creatively, romantically and socially. I have made it beyond what I have ever expected i such a short period of time. I have not sated myself with my accomplishments so far, I always want more, which keeps me moving forward
• I am capable of taking the bad influences from my life, while retaining the lessons in humility, in pride, in caring and in influence that they have taught me.
• I have realized the importance of language, the power of effective communication and the necessity for honesty and openness.
• I have realized that unlike a lot of people, the only ones i want in my life are the ones that can not only take, but can give criticism effectively and with honesty.
• I have learned that apologizing is a sign of weakness, and pointless if not meant, if not honest. Apologizing without being sorry is a waste of time, of words.

Regardless, I am happy of where I am. I am thankful. for the friends I have, I am happy with the things I have said and I am relieved to not have to deal with anymore childish whining on any one's part.

In closing, If you think its worth your time to open your mouth and discuss me, let me tell you now that its not. I really don't care and you will be wasting your time. It will not bother me, and more than likely, it will just make me laugh at your ignorance, immaturity and border-line insanity.

Now, lets go have a soda and watch Bob Saget get roasted.

Surviving the Week, Getting through Friday

Work today is retarded. So I'm doing anything. I dont know if its because i feel lazy or because i just dont want to try for no reason, but I'm not even really in the mood to write.

3. Purchased a 500gig Hard Drive
   
4. Met and exceeded my sales of $80,ooo by $24,000.
5. Set up my desk at home to inspire creativity
6. Set up my website, created digital portals for my work
7. Continued to work on my second blog Fucking Shit Sucks, and bitched at my contributors for not contributing
   
8. Got invited to participate in the planning and organization of Rock In Rio - which is huge!
9. Hit 1,500 visitors to my blog since I started tracking it in June, and marketing it in July
10. Didn't yell at a few of the particularly annoying people in my life.
11. Managed to look particularly awesome every day
    
12. Still dance weekly with a busted knee-cap
    

Yes, I know, I am amazing and you want an ounce of my bravado. It'll be on sale soon, I'm sure.

So great great things have happened lately. I sat with Kevin and fixed all the little issues and problems that were going on, and changed the look of it, ever so slightly, just to bring everything together and get it ready to work.

The calendar is finally up. I used google calendar to make it, which is neat because it gives people the option to decide which calendar to look at. I created the following calendars:

I've also started selecting pieces of writing that are going to be listed in the 'selected works' section. This includes photos, poems, reviews, articles, etc. Let me know if there anything in particular you would like to see me include.

News: 'Dark Knight' Star Christian Bale Arrested In Connection With Assault and Dark Knight Review

Christian Bale turned himself in to London police early Tuesday (July 22), after allegations of assault were made against him.

The "Dark Knight" star, who was in London to promote the film, was allowed to attend the U.K. premiere at a Leicester Square theater Monday night because he made an appointment to turn himself in the following morning. The alleged incident took place on Sunday night at the actor's hotel, the Dorchester on Park Lane, and according to the BBC, involved Bale's mother Jenny and his sister Sharon, who went to the police in Hampshire to make a report.

In addition to this, I think that now would be a good time to quickly let you know how i felt about that little summer blockbuster the Dark Knight.
The new Batman film has not-surprisingly broken record after record since it's release, and while i think all the praise and hoopla surrounding the movie is well deserved, I feel that the title is not.
I don't think it was just me, but Batman: The Joker, seems like it would be more appropriate as a nomimer for the 2008 summer season's biggest blockbuster, because I am fully aware of the fact that as i sat there watching that movie, all i wanted was more joker. As i speak to my friends about it, all i hear is about the joker. There are even comics strips about how Ledger's character far overshadows Bale's title role.
Having said that, I would still like to applaud Bale's overall portrayal of the Batman character. while not exactly failing, Keaton and Kilmer's Batmans were softer, more human in their uniform, while Bale turns the Batman into the feared, strong character that he should be.
The unexpected appearance of Two face at in the 'Dark Night' was a nice treat.
One word of advice: Don't take your kids.

This is my claim to fame, I guess, I hope. I've joined Technorati", and maybe have most likely decided to keep my blog hosted here, on my dear and beloved blogspot, with the blogspot address. That wouldn't really change anything about what Im trying to do, expect maybe the way shit links from my site.

I have a very active social life. Dating a nightlife photographer has its perks, and amongst those are free entry into nightclubs, drink coupons, and the pleasure of meeting about 50-60 new people every day. Of those I usually end up forming actual friendships with about 5 new people a week, most of whom I end up talking to online. I spend a lot of time on the computer, and am online pretty much all day long.

As a result, I often get asked if i have a job, if i work online and then what I do for a living. My answer, is simple and always the same:

Usually I'm met with the same response. Most people say "cool" but some people ask me to who or why. Getting asked 'why?' is my favorite of the responses. I seriously love my job. Not only are the people that i work amazingly fun to work with, bickering like a severely disfunctional family most of the time, rick-rolling the shit out of one another on a constant basis, but i deal with some of the coolest customers daily. Theme parks like Busch Gardens, Cedar Fair, and others, clowns that teach me how to ride elephants, carnies that make me candied apples, pigs in blankets and elephant ears, stores that sell crap for children, are just some of the clients that I talk to.

To top it off, i get to airbrush tattoos onto people and have fun while making my moola. When i first started, I seriously laughed at the entire concept. Sell airbrush tattoo they told me. My mind answered with "to who?" and "what tard would spend money on this shit?". A year later, Im well aware of who does, and why. Recently, I wrote an article about Airbrush tattoos that details why it is such an awesome thing.
